Privacy, in plain English
The short version: you don’t need an account, we don’t follow you around the internet, and we never sell your information.
What we don’t do
- We don’t use cookies to track you.
- We don’t show ads, and we don’t use advertising trackers.
- We never sell or rent your information to anyone.
- We don’t ask for your name, address or date of birth.
- We don’t ask for your address or date of birth. If you make an account, we ask for an email address and a name to call you, and nothing else.
What stays on your device
Your settings (like text size and sound) and any game you’re in the middle of are saved in your own web browser, on your own device. They aren’t sent to us. You can remove them at any time by clearing your browser’s data for this site.
If you make an account, a copy of these is also kept with it (see the next section).
If you make an account
Accounts are optional. Everyone can play without one. An account lets your progress follow you from one device to another.
What we keep, and why:
- Your email address, so we can send you a sign-in code and you can get back in if you switch devices.
- The name you choose (like “Grandma Rose”), so we can say hello.
- The date you made the account and the date you last played. We use these only to count how many people use Kitchen Table, never to look at what one person does.
- Your progress: your settings, your stats, which Daily puzzles you’ve finished, your favorite games, and games you’re in the middle of. It’s a copy of what is on your device, so it can follow you.
- Sign-in codes and sessions. A sign-in code is kept for 10 minutes, as a scrambled value that can’t be read back. A sign-in on one of your devices is kept for up to 60 days, again as a scrambled value, until you sign out.
- Short-lived safety counters. To stop people abusing the sign-in form, we count tries using scrambled versions of email and internet addresses. They are cleared within a day or two, and the plain addresses are never kept for this.
Who else sees it. Our email service, Resend, handles your email address and the code when it delivers your sign-in email. Our database and website run on Cloudflare. Cloudflare Turnstile, a security check, runs on the sign-in and Feedback forms to tell people from automated programs; it is loaded only when you open one of those forms. We never sell or share your information with anyone else.
One cookie. When you sign in, we set one essential cookie that keeps you signed in. It is used for nothing else, it lasts up to 60 days, and it goes when you sign out. It isn’t used to track you, and we use no other cookies.
Seeing and deleting it. Open Settings, find Account, and choose “Delete my account and data”. That deletes your account, your email address, your name, your saved progress, your sign-ins and any feedback you sent while signed in, right away. Games saved on your own device stay on your device (clear your browser’s data to remove those). Our database provider keeps a short-term safety history, 7 days on our plan, after which the deleted information is gone for good. If you’d rather we do it for you, write to us at the address at the bottom of this page.
Feedback
If you send feedback, we receive what you choose to tell us: the face you picked and any message you write. To help us fix problems, we also receive which page you were on, your type of device (phone, tablet or computer), your screen size, and your text size and game layout settings.
Feedback is anonymous unless you choose to leave an email address, or you are signed in to an account (then the note is linked to your account, so deleting your account deletes it too). If you leave an email address, we’ll only use it to reply to you. Feedback is stored in our database on Cloudflare and is only read by the Kitchen Table team. You can ask us to delete a note at any time. The form uses Cloudflare Turnstile, a security check, to keep out automated programs.
Visitor counts
We may count visits to see which games people enjoy. If we do, we’ll use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which doesn’t use cookies, doesn’t collect personal information and doesn’t track you across other websites.
